Wonderful Matters

Just a blog post to share that I did put up my home page piece for the summer, it is at the webzine. Would love for you to look at it, learn a bit of what I've learned, and above all join other followers of Christ and talk with one another about it all. And pray. It seems everyone really likes making FREEDOM  and DEMOCRACY and WE-SIMPLY-MUST-DO-ANYTHING-NECESSARY- TO-STOP-DICTATORS their supremely sovereign gods. How many times do I hear about how much of an "existential threat" some powerful government official will be if he or she gets into some position of authority. Never mind that for several years now people have been childishly using the word existential  as if it related to fears about not existing, when it means nothing of the sort. But it is part of the fiercely distended liturgy, so, well. The truth that just about everybody who blaps incessantly about political matters simply refuses to get is that there is no democracy. There is no freedom. There is always  an autocracy. Always has been. Always will be. This isn't that those things considered democratic ideals  are not desired. I really thought I should add some more thoughts to a post I put up a couple days ago that could easily be called "The Die Hard  Factor." I'd mentioned the movie Die Hard was so compelling because the filmmaker did a fine job of showcasing some phenomenally stupid people, and I believe a big part of that was their skill in portraying them in all their self-absorbed exhibitionist glory. "Look at how danged smart I am while I go full bore into something mindbogglingly stupid that will likely end in my demise!..." Ouch. Makes me think of the Darwin Awards, you know, those stories about people doing exceptionally stupid things that only end in something very, very painful for them. Hate to say it, but this makes me think too of that quote, you may have seen it before too: Death and stupid people who don't know they're stupid are the same. It is only painful for everyone else. Today is the day everyone is supposed to indulge deeply in the 9/11 mythology, and with it the fantasy that with the good-hands team of the happy wholesome ecclesiocratic hegemony you are really actually truly a very good person, while those other guys over there -- see them, if you don't we'll point them out to you -- they are verry baaad . I've just uploaded my latest home page piece , this one for the summer here, and I always blog a bit to introduce it. There is always something I can add to the discussion, sometimes something I simply could not fit in the home page piece. It is really hard to do that right now. The reason is simply there are too many insanely demonic things heaving up from the Infernal Palace that I just don't have the time or wherewithal to get into them. Lots of others do, and that's fine -- I'd even made mention of Victor Davis Hanson who does a spectacular job of constantly reminding us of how Hell's designs make their way into interminably legitimate Ecclesiocratic behavior. Sometimes it just gets overwhelming. I can, however, make a brief reference to what I see in Scripture that reminds us that no matter how maniacally destructive are the arrangements of Cain's Legacy, God wins in the end. Yesterday  in introducing my current home page piece at my webzine , I wrote a bit about the film The Shining, which was on cable television as it is just about once every two or three months. I took a peek at it for a bit to remark about a simple truth, indeed one of those Truth Rules that are so easily dismissed but can be much more readily identified if people were to use their God-given intuition more. That Truth Rule: Stupidity is evil . One reason it is sloughed off so much is that many tend to give the Stupid a pass on their foolishness. Hey,  they spout, they're stupid, they don't know any better. This extraordinarily common attitude is not only just as evil, but it seems to be more and more prominent out there in what should be some kind of dignified civil society. While it is true that it does take some work to have a bit of wisdom, as well as the much more difficult task of identifying one's own stupidity so it may be addressed, the key is seeking deliverance fro...

Using "The Shining" is not hard, really, when simply identifying stupid people. The trick is you've got to ask The Deliverer to deliver you from your own propensity to be stupid. That  can be hard. I mention The Shining  because while I don't think it is the greatest horror movie ever, I do appreciate it. I wrote a bit about it in a blog a while back. There is a sequel too, Doctor Sleep , which is pretty good but too overbearing and self-aware, I think. It is weird, Stanley Kubrick can get away with those long drawn-out scenes full of meaning and intensity, just by the way he handles them. Other directors simply can't, which is why Doctor Sleep has great potential but just isn't even close in quality. Anyway, what makes both films compelling is they do make palpably real the malevolence that exists in the supernatural world. We saw a perfectly wretched motion picture last night, Everything Everywhere All at Once . It was about a woman bouncing through the multiverse being tossed from universe to universe, and while I believe it was trying to make a statement about how nice and non-dysfunctional a family could be, it was actually just a brainlessly meandering, sickeningly creepy, and painfully disturbing hot-mess. After I'd endured the 57th incident of pointless, tedious, and grotesquely bloody martial arts goofiness at just under an hour-&-a-half in, I was done. Turn this idiocy off. All of that wasn't even the most disturbing part. The most disturbing part was that there were so many who liked it, both reviewers and audience members. At Rotten Tomatoes alone: among over 300 reviewers it got a 95%, which seems pretty good (I know very little about the site). From the 2,500+ "verified ratings" among those posting with the popcorn icon it got an 89%. I could get deep into the film and ...

I saw a brief part of a news piece on the television that showed a poll result: 60% of Americans care most about the economy, while only 20% think it is abortion. The message the System spokesholes want us to put deep into our craniums: Get with it. Abortion is just not that big a deal. The economy is. Ahem . The abortion thing IS the economy . As long as we fail to get down the transcendent meaning about what it means to be a human being and what it is to have a family and be in a family with a mother as a woman and father as a man fulfilling their God-ordained roles, then the economy means squat .
