The Juneteenth Mythology

The Americanist enterprise sure does spectacularly with its grand mythology. The latest episode is the Juneteenth craze, the celebration that should now be pounded into our psyches commemorating the day shortly after the end of the US Civil War when the last slaves were pronounced to be free. I wrote some blog posts back in 2020 about the phenomenon, so I won't detail it much here, but I wanted to share some thoughts about a key idea embedded in the whole thing.

Indeed it is really the raison d'etre of the whole thing.

It is gathering so much steam, by the way, that I'd read 30% of the workforce is taking the day off today, this Monday after the 19th. I'm sure that percentage will grow as the mainstream mass media mandarins rev up the racialist tropes. "Don't pay the requisite amount of respect for the Juneteenth holiday? It's obvious you're a racist."

Except for one thing.

See, the whole thing rests on the idea that slavery ended on that June 19th day in 1865, officially. Except that, ahem, that didn't happen. What is ironic is that the powerful leftist voice will rage and holler about how much the person of color is still enslaved to the modern-day "plantation owner," and of course he is that conservative-minded older white male who innately sustains the evil imperialist heteropatriarchy.

The problem is that slavery isn't the worst of it. There are indeed several forms of slavery that still crush people, and none of them include that classified victim who regularly enlists those mandarins to help them know how to multiply the agonies in their "story" by being as "intersectional" as all get out. The more you are liberal, young, darker-skinned, female, and "gender unconventional" in some way, the higher you are in the ranking of elevated goodness all around.

Funny, I thought we were all about being equal in terms of social or political standing.

Funny, that must mean those who are NOT those things must be a now LESSER class of people and therefore eligible for special treatment as those who are the ones NOW unjustly oppressed.

But anyway, I digress.

As I mentioned, I'd blogged about some of those slavery items, but on this the day of Juneteenth commemoration, here is a brief list of those I mentioned in a couple of those posts from that June

Even today there is still very profound and ravaging slavery to

Criminals - not just from the human trafficking that goes on around the globe but to the run-of-the-mill criminals allowed to harm and kill simply because legitimate government activity is made impotent by leftist policies contaminating public safety.

Addiction.

Vanity - this is the essence of a slavery not explicitly mentioned but is included here: slavery to debt.

Folly - just the stupid ideas that people absorb from those virtue-signaling mandarins and mindlessly perpetuate. There is this meme I can't help but share here: When you're dead you don't know it and it is only painful for others - it is the same thing with stupidity.

The Mob - indeed one of the more amusing but scarier memes: Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups.

Sin.

The System.

Dread - which I'd written in the post as "fear," but I've come to realize fear is not necessarily an unhealthy thing - our bodies react physiologically with fear impulses when we must be moved to act appropriately. It is the dread injected by the World that is the enslaving element.

Once again an individual may certainly be enslaved instead to the Holy Spirit, freed from the myriad forms of World slavery which are, yes, very much still around QED -- huh, when will those things have a Juneteenth?

Thing is you may have your very own Juneteenth -- in fact that is really the only kind that can mean anything. Others may have that too when you share Christ with them and they have their own Juneteenth when they become free in Him to enjoy the peace and comfort and joy of His mercy and salvation and eternal life no matter what subjecting horrors the World spews about.

Jesus once said -- you can read about it there in the fourth chapter of John -- that He was looking for people who would worship in Spirit and in Truth. Sadly it is very true that we can still be clobbered by the things out there that enslave -- but I do believe Jesus was enlisting people who knew, from the depths of their hearts, that they were truly free, that they would be overjoyed to let Him know that, and that they would be doing it together with one another.

You are indeed worshipping one of them no matter what: Caesar and his minions fulfilling their duties to manage your sinfulness, or God who in His love gave His life for you.

Really then, that Truth Rule: You are enslaved. You can't help it. The message of the bountiful wonders of Juneteenth is just another lie from the System trying to make you think you are free, because you are in reality enslaved either to your sin and to the World, or to the Holy Spirit.

The twist is the latter is the only way you can truly be free.
